MagMax is a side-scrolling shooter developed and released by Nihon Bussan in 1985. Players control the MagMax fighter, collect parts to assemble a giant robot for boosted firepower against enemies. It features ground and underground areas switchable at transfer points for varied gameplay, with recurring level themes like grasslands, deserts, oceans, and futuristic mechanical cities. The final boss is Babylon, a three-headed mechanical dragon similar to Mecha-King Ghidorah from the Godzilla series. First launched for arcades, it was ported to the Famicom on March 19, 1986, and released in North America in October 1988, followed by ports to Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, and Amstrad CPC. Hamster Corporation released its emulated version on the PlayStation 4 Arcade Archives series in 2015, and it came to Nintendo Switch in May 2020.
