Masked Ninja Akakage is an action game developed by Shouei and published by Toei Animation, released for the Nintendo Famicom on May 20, 1988. Adapted from Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s 1966–1967 manga of the same name (later adapted into tokusatsu, anime, and films), it is set in late 16th-century Sengoku Japan. Players control the ninja Akakage, who teams up with allies Aokage and Shirokage to fight evil warlords and giant monsters using superhuman skills and high-tech ninja tools, safeguarding peace and unity.
The game features rich level design and varied enemy challenges. Akakage excels at swordplay and disguise, with a mask crystal that fires energy beams; Aokage is a young ninja skilled with explosives and chain weapons; Shirokage is an elder ninja who wields a polearm and flies on a large kite.
With its unique ninja theme, rich gameplay content, and story faithful to the original work, Masked Ninja Akakage is one of the beloved classic titles of the Famicom era.
