Saint Seiya: Golden Legend is an action RPG released by Bandai for the FC platform in 1987, adapted from Masami Kurumada's manga of the same name. Players take on the role of the protagonist Seiya, starting from obtaining the Pegasus Cloth, going through the Galaxian Wars, fighting against the Black Saints, competing for the Gold Cloths, facing the Pope's assassins, and finally challenging the Twelve Temples of the Sanctuary. Since the manga's Twelve Temples arc was not yet finished when the game was released, only five Gold Saints appear as bosses in the game. The game features side-scrolling action gameplay combined with RPG elements. Players need to defeat enemies in levels, improve their character's abilities, and ultimately save the goddess Athena.
