Jungle Strike is a helicopter shooter developed and published by Electronic Arts in 1993. A direct sequel to Desert Strike and the second entry in the Strike series, it first launched on Sega Genesis before being ported to SNES, Amiga, MS-DOS, and more.
Players take on the role of a special forces pilot flying a Comanche attack helicopter to complete various military missions. Blending action and strategy, the game tasks players with destroying enemy weapons and facilities, rescuing hostages, and capturing enemy personnel. Beyond helicopters, players can operate vehicles like motorcycles, hovercraft, and F-117 stealth fighters, each with unique traits and controls.
Featuring a 2.5D perspective that simulates 3D effects for rich gameplay, the game requires players to manage resources such as fuel, ammo, and armor, and plan routes strategically to complete missions. The story centers on two villains: Ibn Kilbaba, son of the previous game’s antagonist, and South American drug lord Carlos Ortega. They plot an attack on Washington, D.C., and the player’s mission is to stop their scheme.
Jungle Strike received widespread acclaim upon release, with critics praising its gameplay, strategy, design, controls, and graphics. Its success spurred the development of sequels including Urban Strike, Soviet Strike, and Nuclear Strike.
