Jungle Strike is a helicopter shooter released by Electronic Arts in 1993 as the direct sequel to Desert Strike. It first launched on Sega Mega Drive and SNES, then was ported to Amiga, DOS, Game Gear, Game Boy and other platforms.
Players take on the role of a special forces pilot flying a fictional Comanche attack helicopter to complete a series of missions. The game uses a 2.5D perspective to simulate 3D effects, with diverse level designs. Missions include destroying enemy facilities, rescuing hostages, and capturing enemy personnel. Players can also control other vehicles such as motorcycles, hovercraft, and the F-117 stealth fighter, each with unique features and controls.
The game's plot revolves around two villains: Ibn Kilbaba, the son of the previous game's antagonist, and Carlos Ortega, a South American drug lord. They plan to launch a nuclear attack on Washington, D.C., and the player must stop their plot. The first level is set in Washington, D.C., where players must protect the president's motorcade from terrorist attacks. Later, players venture deep into the jungle to crack down on the drug lord's forces, and finally return to Washington, D.C. to stop the villains' escape and their nuclear attack plan.
While retaining the core mechanics of its predecessor, Jungle Strike adds new vehicles and diverse mission designs, enhancing the game's depth and replayability. After its release, it was widely praised for its excellent gameplay, strategy, design, controls, and graphics, becoming one of the most popular helicopter shooters of its era.
