GP-1 Heavy Motorcycle Racing 1 is a motorcycle racing game developed by Genki and published by Atlus, released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. Set against the backdrop of the WGP 500CC class races of the era, the game lets players ride high-performance heavy motorcycles, challenge tracks across the globe, and aim for the overall points championship. The game features Exhibition Mode and Season Mode. Exhibition Mode supports two-player head-to-head matches; in Season Mode, players compete against 15 opponents on 13 real-world tracks to claim the championship title. The track order follows the 1992 real-world Grand Prix motorcycle racing schedule, including Japan’s Suzuka Circuit, Australia’s Eastern Creek Raceway, and Malaysia’s Shah Alam Circuit. Players can choose from six heavy motorcycles with distinct performance characteristics, each differing in suspension, engine, and frame. Additionally, six engineers are available for selection, whose skills affect motorcycle performance upgrades. While the engineers have no major differences, their choice impacts the bike’s improvement outcomes. During races, players must keep winning to earn prize money for upgrading and tuning motorcycle parts, ensuring they perform at their best. Mastering each track and finding the ideal racing line is the key to victory. The game’s soundtrack was composed by Masanao Akahori, delivering an exhilarating racing experience. GP-1 Heavy Motorcycle Racing 1 is regarded as a classic motorcycle racing title of its time, thanks to its realistic track design, diverse bike options, and deep gameplay mechanics.
