Gods (Chinese title: Western Investiture of the Gods) is an action-puzzle game developed by British studio The Bitmap Brothers and released in 1991. It first launched on Amiga and Atari ST, then was ported to MS-DOS, Mega Drive, Super Nintendo, and other platforms.
Players take on the role of ancient Greek warrior Hercules. To gain immortality, he accepts the gods’ challenge: enter a temple seized by four guardians, defeat them, and reclaim control of the temple.
The game blends platform jumping, action combat, and puzzle elements. Players explore complex environments, find keys and switches, and solve puzzles to progress. It has four main levels, each with multiple sub-stages, culminating in battles against powerful guardians.
Gods is renowned for its stunning visuals and unique game design. Enemy AI adapts to the player’s position and skills, boosting challenge and replay value.
The soundtrack was created by John Foxx’s project Nation 12, with the title track "Into the Wonderful" becoming a classic.
