Ghoul Patrol is an action-adventure game developed by LucasArts for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1994 and published by JVC Musical Industries. As the sequel to the 1993 title Zombies Ate My Neighbors, it retains the style and gameplay of its predecessor.
The game follows protagonists Zeke and Julie, who accidentally open an ancient chest and unleash an old spirit book while visiting a "Ghosts and Ghouls" exhibit at the city library. Reading the book releases a terrifying ghost, causing the city to be invaded by all kinds of monsters. Players control Zeke or Julie to travel through five distinct worlds, defeat the monsters, and save the city.
It features 15 levels across five themed areas: Metropolis, Orient, Caribbean, Medieval Europe, and Hell. Each area has unique enemies and challenges, and players use various weapons and items like crossbows, ping-pong ball machine guns, and water guns to fight foes. The game also offers a two-player co-op mode for adventuring with friends.
Ghoul Patrol was first released in North America and Europe in 1994, and in Japan by Victor Entertainment in 1995. It was re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2010. In 2021, it was reissued alongside its predecessor Zombies Ate My Neighbors as a compilation on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
The game received positive reviews upon release. GamePro called it a "worthy sequel," specifically praising its "360-degree shooting action" and detailed cartoon-style graphics. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it a 7.8 out of 10 score, describing it as "a great tribute to old late-night horror movies."
Overall, Ghoul Patrol is a fun and challenging action-adventure game perfect for retro game fans.
