EarthBound (Japanese: MOTHER 2 Gīgu no Gyakushū) is a role-playing game co-developed by Ape and HAL Laboratory, published by Nintendo. It first launched for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan in 1994, and released in North America in 1995.
Set in the fictional Eagleland, the game follows a boy named Ness, who travels with companions Paula, Jeff and Poo to collect melodies from eight Sanctuaries and defeat the cosmic destroyer Giygas.
Featuring a top-down perspective, players explore towns, caves and other areas, and engage in turn-based battles with enemies. Its unique humor and modern setting make it stand out among traditional RPGs.
