Dr. Mario is a puzzle game developed and published by Nintendo in 1990, originally released for the NES and Game Boy. Players control Dr. Mario, dropping two-colored capsules to eliminate red, yellow, and blue viruses in a bottle. Line up four or more matching capsules/viruses horizontally or vertically to clear them. It offers 0–20 difficulty levels (more viruses at higher levels) and three capsule fall speeds: slow, medium, fast. Scores depend on viruses cleared and fall speed, with bonus points for chain clears. It supports two-player versus, where the first to clear all viruses or make the opponent’s bottle overflow wins. Designed by Gunpei Yokoi, programmed by Takahiro Harada, with music by Hirokazu Tanaka, it has seen ports/remakes on many Nintendo consoles and sequels like Dr. Mario 64 and Dr. Mario & Puzzle League.
