CutThroat Island is a 1995 action-adventure game adapted from the film of the same name, developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment for SNES and other platforms.
Players can choose to play as female pirate Morgan Adams with a rapier or adventurer William Shaw with a longsword. It features single-player and two-player modes, with 10 levels full of enemies like pirates, redcoats and harbor masters.
Gameplay is varied: besides sword fights, level 2 has players escape jailers in a quarry mine cart, while level 5 features combat on a runaway carriage. Players can collect weapons such as daggers, bombs, bottles, torches, hammers and pistols to boost combat power.
Set in 1688, the story follows Morgan Adams who inherits her father’s map fragment, seeking other pieces to uncover the hidden treasure on Cutthroat Island. Players must fight law forces and rival treasure hunters during the adventure.
Though not widely praised upon release, its varied level design and rich weapon system deliver a unique pirate adventure experience.
