Cosmo Gang - The Puzzle is a falling block puzzle game released by Namco in 1992. It first launched on arcades, then was ported to the Super Famicom in 1993. Gameplay blends elements of Tetris and Puyo Puyo: players stack falling blocks and pink alien "Jammers" in a vertical playfield, clear full horizontal rows of blocks, and eliminate Jammers with blue orbs. Clearing Jammers fills a central energy gauge; a full gauge drops a star from the top that wipes out all Jammers below it. The game features single-player and multiplayer versus modes. In multiplayer, a second player faces white "Pipopapo-Tai" robots that act like Jammers. Players send extra enemies to their opponent’s screen by clearing more Jammers, aiming to fill the opponent’s playfield to win. Development began in mid-1992 under a tight schedule; to save time, graphics were modified from the previous title Cosmo Gang - The Video. Mie Arakawa composed the music to match the series’ humorous, goofy tone. The arcade version saw moderate success and won Gamest magazine’s 16th Annual Hit Game Award. Critics praised its multiplayer and gameplay but criticized its graphics. The Super Famicom version was re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2008, followed by the arcade version on Wii Virtual Console in 2009 and Wii U Virtual Console in 2015. In January 2024, Hamster Corporation released the game via the Arcade Archives series on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, marking its first official launch in Western regions.
