Choujikuu Yousai Macross is a side-scrolling shooter based on the iconic Super Dimension Fortress Macross anime series. Released for the Famicom by Namco and Bandai in 1985, the game allows players to pilot the VF-1 Valkyrie in a battle against the Zentradi. A standout feature is the ability to transform the Valkyrie between three modes: Fighter (fastest), Gerwalk (balanced), and Battroid (high firepower, but slow). Each form has its own tactical advantages for different enemy formations. Players must navigate through space and enemy ships to destroy the Zentradi core. Accompanied by an 8-bit rendition of 'Shao Pai Long,' the game offers a nostalgic experience for anime fans and classic shooter enthusiasts alike.
