The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a 1998 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64, and the first 3D entry in the series. Players control Link, who adventures across the vast land of Hyrule to stop the evil Ganondorf’s plot. Blending RPG and puzzle elements, players solve puzzles, fight enemies, and advance the story step by step. It uses a context-sensitive user interface, letting the same button serve different functions in different situations to simplify controls. It also introduced the Z-targeting system, which lets players lock onto enemies or objects for easier combat and interaction. Ocarina of Time received widespread global acclaim and is regarded as one of the best games ever made. Its excellent design, rich puzzles, great 3D graphics and soundtrack made it the first game to earn a perfect score from leading Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. In 2002, Nintendo released a port, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest for GameCube, with modified dungeons and improved graphics and resolution. In 2011, Nintendo launched The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for Nintendo 3DS, a full remake with upgraded visuals, reorchestrated symphonic music, and support for the 3DS’s glasses-free 3D and multi-axis gyroscope features. With its deep story, innovative mechanics and rich content, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a classic in gaming history that influenced many later action-adventure games.
