Super Bonk is a 2D side-scrolling platformer developed by A.I Co., Ltd. and published by Hudson Soft. Released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, it is the fourth entry in the Bonk series and the first to launch on the SNES, retaining the franchise’s signature cute art style and unique gameplay.
Players control Bonk, a bald caveboy who defeats enemies with headbutts. Bonk can dash quickly, wall-jump between two walls, and collect power-ups to transform into forms like Bonk Crab (a shooting form) and the dinosaur-like Big Kronk. The game also features candies that change Bonk’s size and warp pipes for traveling between levels.
With diverse level designs, Bonk journeys through prehistoric eras, inside a dinosaur’s body, a modern Chinatown setting, and even to the moon. Each level is packed with challenges; players must use Bonk’s various skills and transformation abilities to overcome obstacles, defeat enemies, and ultimately face his arch-nemesis, King Drool.
Well-received by players upon its release, Super Bonk was re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2010, further expanding its reach.
