Star Fox 2 is a rail shooter developed and published by Nintendo, originally planned as the second entry in the Star Fox series. Completed in 1995, its release was canceled over concerns its 16-bit graphics couldn’t compete with 32-bit consoles like the PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
It features an advanced 3D engine with the GSU-2 chip for better graphics. Unlike the first game, players can pick their team freely and fight in more open environments.
Though unreleased for decades, its design influenced Star Fox 64. Early ROMs leaked over the years but had bugs and unfinished code.
Nintendo finally officially launched Star Fox 2 on the SNES Classic Edition in September 2017, letting players experience this long-shelved title.
