Romancing SaGa is a 1992 role-playing game developed by Square (now Square Enix) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. As the third entry in the SaGa series, it established the franchise’s signature style with its open-world structure and nonlinear storytelling. Set in the fantasy world of Mardias, players choose one of eight protagonists, each with a unique storyline for high replay value. It features a free scenario system letting players shape their adventure, plus the "Glimpse of Skill" battle mechanic where characters randomly learn new abilities, boosting strategy and fun. Art by Tomomi Kobayashi delivers a lavish style, and it was one of the first RPGs with a day-night cycle affecting NPC behavior for greater immersion. A commercial hit, it sold 1.3 million copies by 2004.
