Rocky Rodent is an action platform game released by Irem in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), with the Japanese title *Nitro Punks: Might Heads*.
Players control Rocky, a rodent who accidentally swallows an envelope with mafia protection money while eating at his favorite diner owned by Balboa. As a result, mafia boss Don Garcia kidnaps Balboa’s daughter Melody. Balboa asks Rocky to rescue her, promising an all-you-can-eat buffet as a reward.
The game has six levels with multiple stages, set in locations like downtown streets, highways, apartments, sewers, and a chili factory. Rocky’s main attack is jumping on enemies, but the game’s unique feature is four special hairstyles, each granting unique abilities:
- Red spiky hair: Attack enemies with hair, break fragile bricks, and grab/land on specific platforms.
- Blue mohawk: Throw like a boomerang to hit enemies or use as a trampoline.
- Braid style: Act as a grappling hook to climb high areas.
- Yellow spring hair: Enable much higher jumps than normal.
Rocky must collect food to earn extra lives after reaching a set amount. The game has a comic book art style, with cutscenes shown in speech bubbles to make the story more engaging.
Overall, Rocky Rodent delivers a rich gameplay experience with its one-of-a-kind hairstyle system and varied level design.
