RoboCop Versus The Terminator is a side-scrolling shooter developed by Interplay Entertainment for the SNES in 1993. Based on Frank Miller’s comic series of the same name, it blends elements from the two classic sci-fi franchises *RoboCop* and *The Terminator*.
Players take control of RoboCop, wielding a variety of weapons like laser guns, the Auto 9 pistol, plasma rifles, and missile launchers to fight criminals and Terminators in intense battles. RoboCop can climb ropes and ladders, enter rooms, and destroy objects, but players must watch out: contact with enemies quickly drains health.
The story is set a few years after RoboCop’s debut. SAC-NORAD contracts Cyberdyne Systems to build Skynet using RoboCop’s technology. Once activated, Skynet gains self-awareness, wages war on humanity, and sends Terminators back in time to weaken the resistance. After destroying one Terminator, RoboCop heads to Delta City, confronts RoboCop 2 (Cain), and ultimately defeats all the Terminators.
With its one-of-a-kind crossover premise and tense, thrilling gameplay, RoboCop Versus The Terminator became one of the most beloved titles among players in the early 1990s.
