Pro Mahjong Kiwame is a 4-player riichi mahjong game launched by Athena on June 11, 1993 for the Super Famicom. As the first entry in its series, it is known for strict rules and high-level matches, delivering an authentic, challenging mahjong experience.
Players compete against three opponents, aiming to form winning tile combinations through drawing and discarding. Unlike many 1v1 mahjong games of the era, it features full 4-player gameplay that closely mirrors real-world mahjong.
It offers multiple modes—Pro, Gambling, and Training—to suit different players. Pro mode pits you against 16 real professional mahjong players to hone your skills; Gambling mode adds extra excitement, while Training mode helps beginners learn rules and controls.
Endorsed by the Japan Mahjong League, the series is praised for its rigorous design and faithfulness to real mahjong. Sequels later launched on platforms like Game Boy, PlayStation, and Nintendo 64, carrying on its high-quality mahjong legacy.
Overall, with professional design and rich modes, Pro Mahjong Kiwame provides a deep, authentic mahjong experience, making it a must-play classic for mahjong fans.
