Power Piggs of the Dark Age is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Titus France. Released in 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in North America, it is set in a humorous fantasy medieval world. Players control Bruno, an anthropomorphic pig tasked with defending his home from the evil Wizard of Wolff and his wolf minions. Bruno wields a sword and can throw explosive jam doughnuts to attack enemies. Players guide him through six challenging levels, each with unique environments and foes. The game also features "blowholes" — air currents that lift Bruno to higher platforms, adding fun and exploration elements. While its cartoon style is similar to Earthworm Jim with smooth character animations, some critics noted the visuals lack depth, making foreground and background elements hard to distinguish and hurting playability. Its level design and enemy layouts were also criticized for being unoriginal and not challenging enough. Overall, Power Piggs of the Dark Age tries to stand out with its humorous premise and unique weapon system, but design flaws prevent it from shining among other platformers. Still, it’s worth a try for retro game fans who want a unique medieval pig warrior adventure.
