Metal Slader Glory is a graphic adventure game developed by HAL Laboratory and released for the Famicom (NES) in 1991. Set in 2062, it follows Earth mechanic Tashiro and his girlfriend Elina, who discover a mech from an 8-year-old war and find data warning of Earth’s peril in its memory. To uncover the mech’s origin and the truth behind the message, Tashiro, Elina, and his sister Azusa embark on an adventure to space colonies.
The game uses a menu-based command system, where players advance the story by talking to characters and selecting action commands. It also incorporates dungeon exploration and semi-real-time turn-based combat elements, adding variety and challenge.
With a 4-year development cycle and advanced graphics technology, Metal Slader Glory became one of the largest Famicom games by size. Its high development and production costs put immense financial pressure on HAL Laboratory.
A director’s cut with new story content and improved graphics was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 2000, making it one of the last games launched for the platform.
The Famicom version received a fan English translation in 2018, and the director’s cut was fully translated into English in 2025, allowing more players to experience this classic title.
