Nintendo World Cup (Japanese: Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu: Soccer Hen) is a 1990 soccer sports game developed and published by Technōs Japan. Released in Japan by Technōs Japan, it launched in the U.S. and Europe via Nintendo under the name *Nintendo World Cup*.
In the Japanese version, players control an 8-member high school soccer team competing in a tournament against 13 other high schools. The U.S. version was revised to feature 13 national teams in a World Cup-style competition.
Carrying over the "Nekketsu" (Hot-Blooded) series' signature fast-paced action and intense matches, the game introduces special shot mechanics to ramp up excitement. Players control all team members to pass, shoot, slide tackle, and fully manage gameplay.
With multiple teams to choose from, each with unique special moves, players can pick their favorite side. The game boasts polished graphics, well-matched colors, simple controls, and high replay value.
A hit on the NES, *Nintendo World Cup* was ported to PC Engine, Mega Drive, Game Boy, and other platforms, becoming one of the most popular soccer games of its era.
