Heavy Shreddin' is a snowboarding game developed by Imagineering and published by Parker Brothers in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). In Europe, it was released under the name Snowboard Challenge.
In the game, players must conquer three mountains, each with three difficulty levels: Beginner (marked with a circle), Intermediate (marked with a square), and Advanced (marked with a diamond). As the game progresses, the terrain becomes increasingly complex, challenging players' reflexes and skills.
Heavy Shreddin' features five different event types:
1. **Downhill**: Players must avoid obstacles like trees and flags and reach the finish line within the time limit. Players lose a life if they time out or crash.
2. **Slalom**: The goal is to pass through gates set along the slope. Missing a gate sends players back to the top of the mountain to restart.
3. **Half-pipe**: In this event, players build up speed on both sides of the half-pipe and perform various tricks to earn high scores.
4. **Moguls**: Players jump and perform tricks between moguls (snow mounds) to navigate the course successfully.
5. **Backwoods**: This is the ultimate test of a player's overall skills, combining speed, tricks, and survival, with extremely high difficulty.
Players start with four lives and earn an extra life for each completed course. Points are awarded for avoiding obstacles, performing tricks, and jumping off ramps or elevated areas. Tricks are executed by jumping and using the directional pad mid-air.
Heavy Shreddin' delivers rich gaming fun with its realistic snowboarding experience and diverse event modes.
