Gyruss is a 1983 arcade shooter developed by Konami and designed by Yoshiki Okamoto. It features a unique "tube shooter" format where players control a ship moving along an invisible circle around the screen center, firing at enemies toward the middle. Its soundtrack is adapted from Bach's *Toccata and Fugue in D Minor*, and it was the first arcade game with stereo sound. Players start from Neptune, travel through Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars to reach Earth, with multiple stages and bonus rounds between planets. Initially released for arcades, it was later ported to home platforms like the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Commodore 64, and ColecoVision. An enhanced version launched for Japan's Famicom Disk System in 1988, followed by a North American NES release in 1989. The NES version adds new features such as super phased attacks, extra enemies, and boss fights. Praised for its innovative gameplay and music, Gyruss is regarded as one of the classic shoot 'em up games.
