Golf is a 1984 sports video game released by Nintendo for the Famicom (NES). Co-developed by Nintendo R&D2 and HAL Laboratory, it was programmed solely by Satoru Iwata and designed by Shigeru Miyamoto. Its innovative swing power and accuracy gauges became a standard for later golf games. Players can choose single-player stroke play, two-player stroke play, or match play, aiming to complete 18 holes in as few strokes as possible. The 1P character wears a white shirt, blue pants, and white shoes, using a white ball; the 2P character wears a red shirt, black pants, and red shoes, using a red ball. A global hit, it is one of the best-selling Famicom sports games with over 4 million copies sold worldwide. It has been ported and remade for multiple Nintendo platforms, including Game Boy and Wii U Virtual Console. Notably, a hidden Golf game on Nintendo Switch serves as an Easter egg tribute to the late former president Satoru Iwata.
