Garry Kitchen's Super Battletank: War in the Gulf is a tank simulation game developed by Imagineering and published by Absolute Entertainment in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Players take on the role of an M1A1 main battle tank commander in the UN coalition forces, completing multiple military missions set during the 1991 Operation Desert Storm. Played from a first-person perspective, the screen’s upper section shows the external environment—mostly deserts and enemy military vehicles—while the lower section displays the tank’s dashboard. Players use the tank’s advanced weapon systems, including a 7.62mm machine gun, 120mm armor-piercing rounds, smoke grenades, and night-vision gear, to fight threats like enemy T-72 tanks, Mi-24 "Hind" helicopters, and SCUD missile launchers. The game features 10 intense missions where players must destroy key targets such as enemy oil fields, chemical weapon facilities, tanks, troop bunkers, and ammo depots. Each mission requires navigating vast desert terrain, avoiding minefields, and using the map to locate targets in real time. With realistic graphics and sound effects, Garry Kitchen's Super Battletank: War in the Gulf delivers an immersive battlefield experience. Designer Garry Kitchen stated it is the sequel to his hit game Battletank, and it was named Best Simulation Game by Game Informer magazine in 1992. Overall, through its realistic military action recreation, rich mission design, and diverse enemy units, this game offers an in-depth tank combat experience, making it a classic among tank simulation games of its era.
