Gargoyle's Quest II: The Demon Darkness (Japanese: Red Arremer II) is a 1992 action-adventure game developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). A spin-off of the Ghosts 'n Goblins series, it blends RPG elements with side-scrolling action, set in a dark fantasy realm.
Players take on the role of Firebrand, a young demon warrior from Etruria. When a mysterious Black Light destroys his home, Firebrand sets out under King Morock’s guidance to uncover its secrets.
Gameplay splits between top-down exploration of the Ghoul Realm and side-scrolling action stages. Firebrand wields fire projectiles, can glide mid-air, and cling to walls. Collecting magical items upgrades his abilities, extending glide time, boosting jump height, and increasing health.
First released in Japan on July 17, 1992, it launched in North America that October and Europe on June 17, 1993. It was re-released via the Virtual Console for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in 2014.
Praised for its unique mechanics and challenging level design, it ranked #63 on IGN’s list of the top 100 North American NES games.
