Ganbare Goemon 3: Shishi Jūrokubē no Karakuri Manji Gatame is an action-adventure game developed and published by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System on December 16, 1994. As the third entry in the iconic Ganbare Goemon franchise, it retains the series’ signature humorous tone while introducing brand-new gameplay mechanics and playable characters. The story centers on the legendary thief Goemon, who embarks on a quest with his companions—Sasuke, Ebisumaru, and Yae—to rescue an old man kidnapped and trapped in the future by the evil nun Sister Bismaru. Players can switch between the four characters at will, each boasting unique weapons and special abilities: for example, Goemon’s “Sudden Impact” and Yae’s “Mermaid Transformation.” Unlike its predecessors, the game features an open overworld design that lets players freely explore diverse regions, similar to the gameplay style of The Legend of Zelda series. It blends multiple playstyles, including platforming, 3D chase sequences, one-on-one fighting, mech battles, and isometric RPG elements, delivering rich, varied gameplay. Additionally, the game introduces massive mech battles featuring “Goemon Impact,” where players control the giant robot to fight fierce enemy encounters, boosting both fun and challenge. After its release in Japan, Ganbare Goemon 3 won over fans, and a mobile port launched in 2005. It was later re-released on the Virtual Console for Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, letting a new generation of players experience this classic title.
