Faxanadu is an action RPG for the FC platform, developed by Hudson Soft and released in Japan in 1987. Its name blends "Famicom" and "Xanadu", marking it as a spin-off of Falcom’s classic title Xanadu. This side-scrolling game combines action and RPG elements. Players take on the role of an unnamed wanderer who returns to his hometown of Aolis Town, only to find it in ruins: the elves’ life-giving spring is polluted, and dwarves have turned into monsters. The king tasks the hero with investigating and resolving this crisis. During the adventure, players explore various areas of the World Tree, including its roots, inner trunk, branches, and the dwarves’ mountain fortress. The protagonist can buy and equip weapons and armor, learn magic, and interact with town NPCs for information. Defeating enemies grants experience points and gold, which are used to level up and purchase items. With its rich story, unique worldbuilding, and challenging gameplay, Faxanadu has become a beloved classic on the FC platform.
