Gomoku Narabe Renju is an FC (Famicom) game released by Nintendo in Japan on August 27, 1983. Based on traditional Gomoku and its professional variant Renju rules, it delivers an electronic version of the classic board game. Players aim to be the first to line up five same-colored pieces horizontally, vertically, or diagonally on a 15×15 board. It features three difficulty levels against AI opponents, plus a two-player mode for playing with friends. Following Renju rules, the game imposes specific restrictions on the black player to balance the first-move advantage. For example, black is forbidden from forming two open "three-three" or "four-four" patterns, or an overline of more than five pieces, resulting in an automatic loss. As one of the early FC board games, Gomoku Narabe Renju offers an easy way to experience traditional board game charm. Its simple interface and varied modes made it a popular casual game choice for players back then.
