Dragon Knight 4 is a tactical RPG released by Japanese developer élf on February 25, 1994. It first launched on PC-9801, X68000 and FM Towns, then was ported to SNES, PlayStation and PC-FX. A Windows remake came out on June 29, 2007.
The story follows Kakeru, son of previous protagonist Yamato Takeru and mage Luna. When Lucifer, one of the Four Demon Kings, tries to destroy human civilization, Kakeru leads a team to stop him but fails. To change this outcome, he travels back in time to help his past self defeat Lucifer.
It uses a turn-based battle system, with players controlling up to 8 characters. Allies and enemies belong to classes like swordsman, archer and mage, each with unique weapons and armor.
The original version had adult content, which was removed for console ports. The Windows remake restored the adult content and added 3D graphics.
The franchise also spawned OVAs, manga and novels. The 4-episode OVA was made by DANGUN PICTURES and released from 1998 to 1999. The manga, drawn by Togashi, ran in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh with 3 tankobon volumes. The 3-volume novel was written by Rei Marimura, with illustrations by Masaki Takei.
As one of élf's classic titles, Dragon Knight 4 is loved by players for its rich story and varied gameplay systems.
