College Football USA 97 is an American football video game published by EA Sports in 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Sega Genesis. The cover features University of Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier. Players can choose from 111 Division I-A teams and enjoy multiple modes including exhibition games, season mode, tournaments, and overtime. New features include a create-a-player function that lets users customize up to 28 players and design custom schedules. It also adds new animations and supports tournaments with up to 16 players in single-elimination or round-robin formats. Players can adjust penalties, set weather types, save user data, make substitutions, set audibles, toggle injuries on/off, and modify game length and difficulty levels. The game includes authentic playbooks (including the Wishbone offense), the USA Today/CNN Coaches Poll, and the Sears National Championship Trophy. College Football USA 97 is the fourth entry in the NCAA Football series. Notably, while most versions were published by EA Sports, the SNES version was published by THQ. Overall, building on the features of its predecessor, the game adds numerous new functions and improvements, delivering a richer college football gaming experience for players.
