Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is a 1987 action RPG by Nintendo, the second entry in The Legend of Zelda series. First released in Japan for the Famicom Disk System, it launched on NES in North America and Europe in 1988. Players control Link on a quest to save the sleeping Princess Zelda. Unlike its predecessor, it uses a side-scrolling view and adds RPG elements like an experience system and magic meter. Its deeper combat requires Link to adjust stances to block and attack, and he learns spells from town sages to overcome challenges. A critical and commercial hit, it introduced staples like the magic meter and Dark Link, though its XP system and side-scrolling design were dropped from later mainline games. Overall, its unique gameplay and innovations laid groundwork for the franchise, making it a landmark Zelda title.
