Yoshi's Story is a side-scrolling platformer developed and published by Nintendo. It first launched in Japan for the Nintendo 64 on December 21, 1997, and rolled out globally in 1998. It released on the iQue Player in mainland China on March 25, 2004, with Simplified Chinese support.
Set on Yoshi's Island turned into a storybook, the plot follows Baby Bowser stealing the Happy Tree, stripping the island's Yoshis of joy. Six differently colored Yoshis set off to find the tree and restore happiness.
The game features a unique crayon art style with bright, whimsical visuals. Players explore branching paths across levels, each holding 60 regular fruits—only 30 need to be eaten to clear a stage. The campaign spans 6 worlds with 24 levels total, but only one level per world is required to progress; the story mode wraps up in 6 levels, taking roughly 2 hours.
Controls are simple and accessible for all ages. Players make Yoshi jump, eat enemies, and throw eggs. The game also supports controller vibration for enhanced immersion.
While Yoshi's Story shines in visuals and music, its short levels and low difficulty somewhat reduce replay value. Still, its abundant hidden and collectible elements offer plenty of exploratory fun for players.
