Rygar (Japanese title: Argos no Senshi) is a side-scrolling action game launched in 1986 by Tecmo, a renowned Japanese game company. Players take on the role of a legendary warrior who wields the Diskarmor — a sharp shield attached to a long chain that attacks like a yo-yo — to defeat enemies and ultimately challenge the evil ruler Ligar. First released on arcade platforms, the game was later ported to multiple systems including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Master System, Atari Lynx, and X68000. The 1987 NES version, which added role-playing elements, is regarded as one of the early representative Metroidvania games. Its high difficulty and nonlinear gameplay have earned it a strong reputation among players. In 2002, Tecmo released a 3D remake, *Rygar: The Legendary Adventure*, for the PlayStation 2, followed by another remake, *Rygar: The Battle of Argus*, for the Wii in 2008.
