Rad Racer II is an NES racing game released by Square Soft in North America in 1990, serving as the sequel to the 1987 title Rad Racer. It retains the arcade-style gameplay of its predecessor, where players drive from a third-person perspective, pass checkpoints on each track within the time limit, and reach the finish line. The game features 8 brand-new tracks filled with rolling hills, sharp turns, obstacles, and other vehicles to boost the challenge. Players must avoid collisions with other cars or roadside obstacles, as crashes will slow down or stall the vehicle and waste precious time. Compared to the first game, Rad Racer II adds a turbo boost function that lets players hit speeds up to 255 mph for a more thrilling racing experience. However, it removes the 3D mode from the original and no longer supports red-blue 3D glasses. While the game improves on visual details and track design, it did not match the success of its predecessor due to its high similarity in gameplay and content to the first entry.
