Probotector is a 1987 NES side-scrolling shooter released by Konami in Europe, serving as the European version of the Contra series. Due to strict European game content censorship at the time, human characters in the original game were replaced with robots to comply with local review standards. Players take on the role of special forces members, facing hordes of enemies including humans, machines, and alien creatures. The game supports two-player co-op mode, and players can obtain various weapon upgrades like machine guns, shotguns, and laser guns by shooting down special targets. It features a total of eight levels, with the second and fourth levels adopting a unique top-down perspective, enhancing the game's diversity and challenge.
