Pro Wrestling is a pro wrestling game developed and published by Nintendo. It first launched in 1986 for Japan’s Famicom Disk System, then came to the NES in North America and Europe. As the third NES wrestling title, it lets players pick from 6 unique wrestlers, each with distinct moves like punches, kicks, running attacks, and grapple moves such as body slams and backbreakers. Wrestlers can also climb turnbuckles for high-flying attacks. Matches are 1-on-1 (no tag team bouts); you can lift a downed foe to keep attacking or go for a pin. There’s a 5-minute time limit, with draws if no winner emerges. Out-of-ring combat is allowed, but wrestlers must return before the ref’s 20-count or lose. Single-player has two phases: win 5 matches against increasingly tough CPU foes to challenge VWA Champion King Slender (or Giant Panther if you play as King Slender). After winning the VWA title, defend it 10 times to face VWF Champion Great Puma, one of the hardest NES bosses ever—beat him to become VWA/VWF double champion and finish the game. Two-player mode lets two players pick different wrestlers for best-of-3 matches with no time limit. The roster includes Fighter Hayabusa (Japan), Giant Panther (USA), Kin Corn Karn (South Korea), King Slender (USA), Starman (Mexico), and The Amazon (unknown region). The Amazon is widely cited as inspiration for Blanka in 1991’s Street Fighter II.
