King of Kings: The Early Years is an unlicensed Christian-themed NES platformer released by Wisdom Tree in 1991. It features three standalone adventures depicting different moments from Jesus’ early life.
In "The Wise Men’s Journey", players take on the role of one of the three Magi, riding a camel to Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus. Along the way, they collect gifts like gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and earn scrolls to boost health by answering questions about the King James Bible. The background music uses the Christmas carol "We Three Kings".
"Flight to Egypt" follows Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus as they travel to Egypt to escape King Herod’s persecution. Players control a donkey carrying the Holy Family, dodging enemies and obstacles. The background track is "Go, Tell It on the Mountain".
In "Jesus and the Temple", players play as Joseph, searching for 12-year-old Jesus who went missing in the Jerusalem Temple. This side-scrolling level requires players to avoid enemies and obstacles within a time limit to find Jesus. The background music is "What Child Is This?".
Health is represented by scrolls, and players can earn extra scrolls by answering Bible questions. Each story offers a distinct gameplay experience, designed to convey Bible stories through interactive play.
