Ghostbusters is an action game released by Activision for the NES in 1986, adapted from the 1984 film of the same name. Players take on the role of a new Ghostbusters recruit tasked with capturing rampaging ghosts across New York City to protect it from supernatural threats. At the start, players purchase gear like proton packs, ghost traps, and PKE meters, then patrol the city in the iconic ECTO-1 to find haunted locations. When a call comes in, players head to the scene, weaken ghosts with proton packs, and trap them. Successful captures earn rewards to upgrade gear or buy new items. The ultimate goal is to amass enough funds and experience to enter the building, face the final boss, and save the city. Faithfully recreating film elements like characters, gear, and music, it’s beloved by players.
