Hissatsu Dōjō Yaburi is a 1989 hybrid RPG-fighting game developed and published by Sigma Enterprises for the Nintendo Famicom. Players take on the role of a rookie martial artist journeying through ancient China to hone their skills and seek fame and fortune. Featuring side-scrolling exploration, the game has players start from villages, traverse surrounding areas, and face enemies like martial artists, bandits, and demons. Encounters trigger a combat mode where players unleash attacks matching their skill level to defeat foes. Victories grant money and rewards, which can be used in towns to upgrade skills and restore health. Special buildings host consecutive battle tournaments culminating in a showdown with the reigning champion, offering bigger cash prizes and increased in-game reputation. Notably, Hissatsu Dōjō Yaburi was Sigma Enterprises’ first Famicom title, as the studio previously focused on arcade game development.
