Golf is a sports video game co-developed by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, released for the Famicom on May 1, 1984. As one of the first Famicom titles, it became a classic with simple graphics and realistic golf gameplay.
Players can choose from single-player stroke play, two-player stroke play, or match play modes, and challenge 18 different holes. It features a "three-click swing" system: the first press starts the swing, the second sets power, and the third determines accuracy. This design laid the foundation for later golf games.
Notably, the game was programmed solely by Satoru Iwata. After his death on July 11, 2015, Nintendo included Golf as an Easter egg in the Nintendo Switch, the last console Iwata proposed, to honor him.
Golf sold 2.46 million copies in Japan, making it one of the most well-known Famicom games.
