GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is a 2004 first-person shooter developed by EA Los Angeles, released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and Nintendo DS. Players take on the role of a disgraced ex-MI6 agent who loses his right eye on a mission and receives a golden bionic eye, earning him the "GoldenEye" nickname. Dismissed from service, he is recruited by Auric Goldfinger to assassinate his rival Dr. Julius No, with other classic James Bond characters like Bond girls, Oddjob, Xenia Onatopp, and Francisco Scaramanga also appearing. Despite sharing its name with the 1995 film, the game’s story has no direct connection to the movie or the 1997 game of the same title; the protagonist’s golden bionic eye is the source of his "GoldenEye" moniker. Gameplay centers on first-person shooting, with players wielding various weapons and using four unique GoldenEye abilities: MRI Vision (see through walls), EM Hack (remotely control electronics and enemy weapons), Polarity Shield (deflect bullets), and Magnetic Field (levitate enemies). These powers unlock gradually and drain energy that slowly regenerates over time. The game also features highly customizable multiplayer, supporting up to four-player split-screen, and up to eight-player online play on non-Nintendo platforms. Players can unlock extra customization options, character skins, maps, and game mode variants by completing the single-player campaign. Overall, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent delivers a unique take and rich content, offering players an experience distinct from traditional James Bond games.
