GoldenEye: Rogue Agent (French title: *GoldenEye: Au Service du Mal*, meaning "In Service of Evil") is a first-person shooter developed by EA Los Angeles and published by EA Games. It launched in 2004 for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, with a Nintendo DS port following in 2005.
Players take on the role of a former MI6 agent dismissed for excessive brutality, recruited by Auric Goldfinger to fight his arch-nemesis Dr. Julius No. Set in the James Bond universe but with an unorthodox perspective, the game features iconic franchise characters including Pussy Galore, Oddjob, Xenia Onatopp, and Francisco Scaramanga.
The protagonist loses his right eye in a clash with Dr. No, and Goldfinger’s technicians fit him with a golden synthetic eye — giving him the "GoldenEye" codename. This eye grants special abilities unlocked as the game progresses: MRI vision (see through walls), EM hack (infiltrate electronic systems), magnetic shield (deflect bullets), and magnetic field (hurl enemies into the air).
Gameplay includes a wide arsenal of single-handed, dual-wielded, and two-handed weapons. Players can also use environmental traps to eliminate foes, such as electrified floors, locked high-heat saunas, and cryogenic freezing pods. The game offers 4-player split-screen multiplayer, plus online multiplayer for up to 8 players on non-Nintendo platforms.
While its premise and mechanics are striking, the game has no direct tie to the 1995 *GoldenEye* film or 1997 game of the same name. Its unique perspective and innovative gameplay set it apart within the Bond video game series.
