Faxanadu is a 1987 action RPG developed by Hudson Soft for the NES. Its name blends "Famicom" and "Xanadu", marking it as a spin-off of Falcom’s classic title Xanadu.
Set in a fantasy world held up by the World Tree, the game once saw elves and dwarves living in harmony. But an evil force has twisted dwarves into monsters that now attack elves. Players take on the role of a nameless wanderer who returns to his hometown of Eolis to find it in ruins, and is tasked by the Elf King to investigate and end the crisis.
Featuring side-scrolling gameplay that mixes action and RPG elements, the game has players explore various areas, defeat enemies, collect gold and items, and gather info by talking to NPCs. Multiple towns let players buy gear, learn magic, and save their progress.
With its unique worldbuilding and rich content, Faxanadu remains a beloved classic on the NES platform.
