F-Zero X is a futuristic racing game developed by Nintendo EAD, released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. As the third entry in the F-Zero series and the first to use 3D graphics, it delivers a more intense visual experience. Set in the 26th century, players pilot hover cars equipped with the G-Diffuser anti-gravity system, racing at speeds over 1,000 km/h on high-altitude tracks. The game features 30 playable characters, each with unique vehicle performance stats, letting players choose based on track traits and personal preference. It offers rich modes including Grand Prix, Time Attack, Death Race, and multiplayer. Death Race tasks players with eliminating 29 other rivals as fast as possible on a dedicated track, while the X Grand Prix mode generates random tracks for fresh challenges every race. Running at 60 frames per second, it ensures smooth gameplay. Though its visual details are relatively simple, its high-speed racing, diverse track designs, and stable frame rate earned it widespread acclaim. In 2000, Nintendo released the 64DD-based F-ZERO X EXPANSION KIT in Japan, adding 12 new tracks, vehicles, and a track editor. In 2004, iQue launched an official version in mainland China with full Chinese voice acting. In 2007, the original game became available for download via Nintendo’s Wii Virtual Console service.
