BattleTanx: Global Assault is a 1999 action game developed and published by 3DO for Nintendo 64 and PlayStation. As the sequel to 1998’s BattleTanx, it builds on the original’s gameplay with improvements and expansions.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the game lets players control various futuristic tanks to complete missions across ruined cities. There are multiple tanks to choose from, each with unique abilities and weapon systems. Players can use special powers and pick up items to boost their combat strength.
In single-player mode, you take on the role of Griffin Spade, tracking down and fighting the evil queen Cassandra to rescue his kidnapped son Brandon. The story spans cities across the US and Europe, including Washington, London, Paris, and Berlin.
Multiplayer mode supports up to four players battling across maps based on real-world landmarks like Route 66, the White House, the UK Parliament, and the Eiffel Tower. It offers multiple modes such as deathmatch, Battlelord, and escort, boosting replayability.
BattleTanx: Global Assault is loved for its fast-paced gameplay and varied modes. Its destructible environments and interactive elements make combat more intense and immersive. Though 3DO went bankrupt shortly after release and never made a sequel, the game remains a classic tank action title.
