Pokémon Stadium (Japanese: Pokémon Stadium) is a Nintendo 64 game released by Nintendo in Japan on August 1, 1998. It was only launched in Japan with no overseas version, developed by HAL Laboratory as a first-generation spin-off.
Key features include:
- **Battle Mode**: Fight against other players or NPCs.
- **Organize Function**: Move Pokémon and items between your party, PC, and in-game boxes.
- **List Function**: View your Pokémon and their stats.
- **Pokédex Function**: Browse a 3D Pokémon Pokédex.
- **Register Function**: Save one team for quick use.
- **Party Function**: Check your current active Pokémon.
- **GB Function**: Play first-generation Pokémon games on N64.
It connects to Game Boy Pokémon titles via the 64GB Transfer Pak, letting you use your trained Pokémon in 3D battles on N64.
Battle modes:
- **Free Battle**: Use Pokémon transferred via 64GB Transfer Pak or 8 preset teams to fight others/NPCs, with three level tiers: 1-30, 50-55, and Open Level.
- **Tournament Mode**: Challenge real-world tournament opponents in 1-30 and 50-55 level brackets; earn points to unlock a speed boost for GB mode Pokémon games.
40 Pokémon are usable in battle, most from 1997 Nintendo Cup competitors’ teams.
Notably, late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, then a HAL Laboratory programmer, ported Red/Green/Blue code and wrote the game’s base program in just one week with no reference documentation.
