Pokémon Snap is a first-person simulation game co-developed by HAL Laboratory and Pax Softnica, published by Nintendo. It first launched for the Nintendo 64 in Japan on March 21, 1999. Players take on the role of photographer Todd, traveling across Pokémon Island in a special vehicle to take photos of wild Pokémon. Use various items to attract Pokémon and capture their natural poses; photos are scored based on size, pose, and composition. Originally developed for the 64DD, it was shifted to an N64 cartridge due to platform delays. It debuted at No. 4 in Japan’s first-week sales, sold over 150,000 copies in the U.S. in three days, and was the sixth best-selling game in the U.S. in 1999. Re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in 2007 with a feature to send photos to the Wii Message Board. In 2020, Nintendo announced a Switch sequel, New Pokémon Snap, supporting multiple languages including Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
